Overview

Why Central Serengeti

Central Serengeti, particularly the Seronera region, is the year-round wildlife heart of the park. River valleys, kopjes and open plains support resident prey and predators through all seasons, making the area one of the most dependable components of a Northern Tanzania safari.

Best time to considerYear-round

Year-round game viewing

Central Serengeti is not dependent on the migration to be rewarding. Lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, hippo, buffalo and many antelope species use the Seronera ecosystem throughout the year. The density of tracks and varied habitat allow flexible game-drive planning.

Big cats and kopjes

Granite kopjes create shade, lookout points and denning areas, while riverine corridors hold thicker vegetation used by leopard and many smaller species. Photographers often benefit from staying at least two nights so that multiple dawn and late-afternoon drives can be planned.

Accommodation range

Central Serengeti has one of the widest accommodation selections in the park, from classic tented camps and mid-range lodges to large full-service luxury properties and highly exclusive camps. The right choice depends on budget, preferred atmosphere and how much time you want to spend in camp versus on game drives.

Connection point

Seronera Airstrip makes Central Serengeti a major fly-in/fly-out hub. It also links well by road with Ngorongoro, Ndutu, western Serengeti and the northern migration areas, though long road sectors should be planned realistically.
