8 Days Ndutu Calving Photography Safari
A green-season photography safari focused on Ndutu, short-grass plains, predators and calving-season wildlife.
This itinerary is a planning framework rather than a fixed one-size-fits-all departure. Accommodation level, room configuration, road versus fly-in sectors and the order of some game-drive days can be adjusted after dates, group size and travel priorities are confirmed.

Detailed Itinerary
The route below explains the intended flow of each safari day. Exact road timing, game-drive sequence and accommodation are finalized after travel dates and lodge availability are confirmed.
Day 1Arrival in Arusha+
Arrive in northern Tanzania and meet your transfer driver for the drive to Arusha. This first night is deliberately kept light: check in, recover from the flight and meet your safari representative for a practical briefing covering departure time, luggage, vehicle setup, dietary notes and the route ahead. Arusha is Tanzania’s main Northern Circuit gateway, so staying here before the safari reduces pressure on the first game-drive day.
Day 2Tarangire National Park+
Leave Arusha after breakfast and drive southwest toward Tarangire National Park. Once inside the park, the pace shifts to game viewing along river systems, open woodland and baobab country. Elephants are a signature feature, particularly in the dry months, but the day is planned around whatever wildlife is active rather than a checklist. A picnic lunch keeps you inside the park through the strongest viewing hours. In the afternoon, continue toward your selected lodge or camp, either inside the ecosystem or on the route toward Karatu.
Day 3Ngorongoro Crater+
Descend through the crater wall for a concentrated game-drive day on the Ngorongoro floor. Grassland, marsh, woodland and soda-lake habitat support lion, hyena, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippo and many other species. Black rhino occur here, although sightings vary. The crater is busy in peak periods, so early timing and a well-positioned lodge can improve the flow of the day. After the ascent, continue to your rim lodge, Karatu property or the next sector of the safari.
Day 4Ndutu & Southern Serengeti+
Travel into the short-grass plains of the Ndutu ecosystem, where the Great Migration often concentrates during the green season. From roughly December to March, wildebeest and zebra spread across a broad area according to rainfall and grazing. During the calving period, newborns and predator activity make this one of Tanzania’s strongest seasonal wildlife zones. The day is spent moving slowly between plains, woodland edges and water areas, following current wildlife conditions rather than a fixed loop.

Day 7Central Serengeti+
Enter the central Serengeti and devote the day to the Seronera ecosystem, an area known for year-round resident wildlife. Game drives move between river valleys, kopjes and open plains, looking for big cats as well as elephant, giraffe, buffalo, hippo and plains game. Because Central Serengeti remains productive outside migration months, this is the anchor point of many Northern Circuit safaris. Staying at least two nights allows both early-morning and late-afternoon drives without constantly packing and moving.
